I made this newborn crochet hat for my niece, Eila. Very quick to work up and so darn cute!
This is my first posted pattern, so please bear with me. Feel free to share and sell any of your work made from this crochet hat pattern, I only ask that you tag my blog on any blog posts!
Eila Newborn Crochet Hat
Size: Newborn (0-3 month)
Hook: H
Yarn: Caron Simply Soft (LOVE this yarn for baby projects!) *colors shown are soft pink and off white*
*The hat will not start the spiral effect until after Round 6*
Round 1: Magic ring, ch 1; 12 sc in ring, join with slip stitch to first ch1 {12 st}
Round 2: ch 1; *sc and dc in each st*, repeat around, join w/slip stitch to first sc {24 st}
Round 3: ch 2; *dc in first st, sc in next st* repeat around, join w/slip stitch to first dc {24 st}
Round 4: ch 1; *sc in first st (dc); 2 dc in next st (sc)* repeat around, join w/slip stitch to first sc {36 st}
Round 5: ch 2; *2 dc in first st (sc); 1 sc in next st (dc)* repeat pattern around, join w/slip stitch to first dc {48 st} *at this point the diameter of the hat should be 3.75″-4.0″ for newborn size*
Round 6: ch 1; *sc and 2 dc in first st; skip two st; repeat pattern around, joining with a slip st to top of the first sc {48 st}
Round 7-12: Repeat round 6.
Round 13: Repeat round 6 up to the last 2 dc. HDC in last 2 dc then sl st to first sc in previous round.
R14: With second color, ch 1 and sc in ea st around; join to ch 1 with sl st.
Round 15: ch 1; crab stitch around. Fasten off and weave in ends.
Add pom pom.
*I have no actual pattern for the pom pom. I just wrap yarn around a piece of cardboard (about 2.5″ wide for this hat) a bunch of times, slip it off, wrap yarn around tightly around the middle and cut the ends. I’m sure there are much better ways to do this but it works for me!*
Thank you for stopping by the homestead!
Until next time,
Melissa
