It’s no secret that we lead a busy life here on the homestead.
Between chores, kids, household duties, issues that arise (seemingly very frequent), working, etc- there is hardly time to rest.
Certainly not much time to pick up the camera. It’s hard enough for me to find time to take pictures for the blog, let alone candid shots of us going about our every day life. The pictures that do end up on my phone (notice, no actual camera) aren’t exactly high-quality.
And pictures of ME? Well… I love my husband dearly but, like many men, snapping a quick picture of me and the kids just doesn’t cross his mind much.
When my good friend and phenomenal photographer, Katie, approached me and asked if I would be interested in collaborating with her I darn near fell off my chair. Seriously, I cried.
I have admired Katie’s work for years. She shot my sisters wedding photographs and I am still jealous of how amazing they are. It seems like every wedding, graduation, family, engagement shoot that she posts on facebook are right from a magazine.
Katie alone is brilliant, but recently she teamed up with yet another accomplished photographer, Brieana, and they came together to form Solas and Kin. A photography business based on “light and family”.
Katie and Brieana have the amazing gift of truly capturing the spirit and mood of the surroundings. Full of original ideas and a relaxed, professional poise- it’s easy to be yourself in their presence.
Their mad camera skills made our 7 year-old’s chocolate birthday cake (expertly frosted by our 3 children) look like a masterpiece, despite the frosting on every surface.
Our silly, basic chickens? Well, they could easily grace the cover of any farm magazine now. Basic no more. Gorgeous, darling.
Even me, I don’t actually own a proper farm coat (what?!) and what I do have is covered in paint and who-knows-what… honestly not worthy of this lifestyle shoot, real-life or not. Despite my many-sizes-too-big coat, subzero temps, and hurricane-force winds, Katie and Brieana managed to truly capture my woman farmer and homesteader spirit.
Posed photo shoots are wonderful and serve their own beautiful purpose but there is something magical about the real-life, precious moments captured in a lifestyle shoot.
I highly encourage you to have your own lifestyle photo shoot done, of course if you are local, Solas and Kin are the best (in my humble opinion).
Words cannot express how much these pictures mean to me. I am truly honored to be part of this collaboration and feel I can never thank Katie and Brieana enough.
Please help me to thank them by visiting and following their Facebook page, even if you aren’t local- seeing their stunning pictures in my news feed always brightens my day!
Check out their website and instagram account and be sure to let them know I sent you!
