School is back in session and through all the excitement, new adventures and possibly some tears, comes the fear of the dreaded “L” word.
Any parent of a school aged kid knows the heart sinking feeling when you get the lice (I wish I could whisper type that… makes my skin crawl just typing) note.
It’s inevitable. Some kid will come to school with lice and get the fire started. The dreaded note making all parents aware, fearful and instantly itchy.
What can be done though? Lice spreads easily and beyond sticking our kids in a bubble, what is a parent to do to try and prevent the nasty bugs from invading your own home?
Of course, it is common practice to tell our children not to share hats, hair items, etc but once they are in school we can’t control whether they heed our warnings or not. And if your kids are anything like mine, their ears are for decorative purposes anyway.
I discovered this product last year when I was searching for a good de-tangler for our daughter and the feared note happened to be in the take-home folder that very same week.
Fairy Tales Rosemary Repel Kid Shampoo and Conditioning Spray
I can’t say that this works 100% but I can say we never have had lice (knocking on every piece of wood in site)! And the de-tangler works like charm on my daughters super fine hair. Maybe it’s dumb luck but I’m not chancing it. I love this stuff and will keep it stocked!
Bonus tip!! I also found out it works great at keeping ticks away!
Our middle child, William, has always been a “tick magnet” (it’s a precursor to his teenage years, I just know it. lol!) but since we have been using this shampoo, I haven’t found one on him! We spend a lot of time outdoors and have a dog who goes in and out as she pleases. It is certainly a pleasant “extra”.
If you are looking for a good preventative for lice and don’t want to have to remember to add tea tree to your kids shampoos (okay, okay I have a lazy bone sometimes), this is a great product! The smell is pleasant and not too strong and it also actually cleans hair well too. Maybe it’s because boys don’t use much shampoo with short hair but we also find a little goes a long way and it lasts a long time so it’s a great value to boot!
Off to stock up for the school year…
Thank you for stopping by the homestead. I hope this helps other parents who also have lost sleep over the thought of a lice invasion!
Until next time,
Melissa
