Diaper Challenge Day 3: Diaper Storage

*Due to being busy as heck {aka not enough hours in the day}, I’m a little behind on my blog posts. Rest assured, I’ve been good on my challenge though!*

Today’s diaper challenge question is an open topic. We can choose whatever we want to talk about.

Diaper Storage and Changing Station Set-Up

I’m going to show you how I (typically-not for this challenge) set up and store my diapers and my changing station. I like to have my diapers easily accessible when changing a squirmy baby. Previously, I had diapers in the dresser drawers where the changing pad is but with a girl and all her “accessories”- I just didn’t have room! Plus, my stash has grown… some. 🙂

Using cloth,  I love having a designated changing space. I really dislike having diapers/wipes scattered around my home. Unfortunately, Loretta’s room is on the upper level so I do have to go upstairs to change her. Minor inconvenience and as I rarely have time to actually exercise- this helps me out! 🙂

I had a different idea on what I wanted to use for storing diapers but my budget wouldn’t allow for it. I found the wooden boxes at Joann fabric Black Friday for $7/each. I paid $1 for the paint and $1 for all the glitter. For $16- I got a great storage space! The bucket that I hold supplies in was on clearance at Target for $9 and the glass apothecary jar that holds paci’s was $3 at a garage sale.Diaper Orgaization

I really like how the boxes are above the changing station. I can easily grab one while holding Loretta down with one hand (she’s at the “lets see how fast I can roll over when mom sets me on the changing pad” stage). Plus, I can admire my stash every day! Btw- said stash is getting thinned out! This challenge has really inspired me!

In the upper left box, I keep AI2 covers and AIO diapers (a couple are different AI2 diapers that are stuffed and ready to go).Diaper Organization

Upper right box has AI2 inserts, prefolds, and flats. On top of this box I keep my regular covers and nighttime fitteds as well as snappis and extra pacis. I also use this box to dry covers between changings. I wipe them out, hang them on the corner and they dry very quickly.Diaper Organizatioin

Obviously, the changing pad is on a dresser. This works great and I’ve used this method with all three kids (three different dressers). Her clothes are all right there (except dresses etc that are hung up) and I can easily get her changed/dressed. Once she is potty trained, all I have to do is remove the changing pad and supplies bucket and voila- its just a dresser again. Under the changing pad there is a dollar store shelf liner. it keeps the pad nice and secure so it doesn’t slide around while I’m changing her.Diaper Organization

In my supplies bin, I have a wipes case with cloth wipes, baby powder ([easyazon_link identifier=”B000UVX7KE” locale=”US” tag=”modern0fb-20 “]Burts Bees[/easyazon_link]), lotion ([easyazon_link identifier=”B005C2NAO4″ locale=”US” tag=”modern0fb-20 “]Shea Moisture[/easyazon_link]), nipple butter ([easyazon_link identifier=”B000JVCBBG” locale=”US” tag=”modern0fb-20 “]Earth Mama[/easyazon_link]- works great on dry skin), coconut oil for any rashes (which shes only had one so far), and a little zippered pouch with nail clippers, brush, comb, baby cotton swabs, bulb syringe, and thermometer.

Outside of the bin I keep my spray bottle for wetting the wipes. I find that I always ended up with musty wipes if I kept them in a solution, this way I just wet the one(s) I need as I go. I use water with a couple drops of tea tree and lavender essential oil. A friend gave me some [easyazon_link identifier=”B004GMGLN8″ locale=”US” tag=”modern0fb-20 “]LüSa[/easyazon_link] wipe solution and I’ve been using that as well.

I also have an awesome little [easyazon_link identifier=”B00WNWGHFK” locale=”US” tag=”modern0fb-20 “]touch-lamp[/easyazon_link] here that I use at night if needed. Its totally cordless (still running on the initial charge I did before Loretta was born- 8 months ago) so it can go wherever. I love this thing!IMG_4593.1

I hang my wet bags on the side of the dresser. I just use [easyazon_link identifier=”B000M3V8XI” locale=”US” tag=”modern0fb-20 “]Command hooks[/easyazon_link] and they have held up great- even when I have a way-overstuffed wet bag! The one closest to the front is the “in use” one and the ones toward the back are extras.Diaper Organization

On the side table, I have extra wet bags that don’t have a hanging loop.

In the top drawer I keep night time diapers as well as some diapers that I don’t normally use (limited edition “themed” ones) and swim diapers.Diaper Organization

In the bottom drawer I have some size large inserts and large fitteds that are too big for her right now.Diaper Organization

That’s my set-up! It works great for us and I hope it has inspired you! This set-up could easily accommodate disposable diapers as well with a few adjustments. They aren’t as pretty to look at but it really is handy to have the diapers and supplies right there and ready to grab! Plus, when they are all out in the open, it is easy to see if you are getting low so you avoid that “oh no!” out of diapers moment after you just disposed of a full one!Diaper Organization
